What’s New on Nantucket for 2022

On the way to summer with Sandy Pedals

Nantucket has over 35 miles of bike trails that will take cyclists to nearly a dozen different areas of our island. You can take the paths to Beaches, Town, Madaket, Surfside, Polpis, Cisco, and Siasconset.

Biking is a great way to explore Nantucket, but if you’re not an avid biker, you might think a 2, 5, or 9 mile bike ride is beyond your ability.

Think again !

Thomas Holt started his company Sandy Pedals to bring the accessibility and convenience of e-bikes to everyone aged 18 to 75. Sandy Pedal Bikes have pedal assist motors that can go up to 14 miles per hour (people walk about 3.5 miles per hour), take a bike ride from downtown Nantucket to Surfside Beach for a day in the sun or Cisco Brewers for live music and a doable cold brew for almost anyone. And you don’t need to find parking!

Sandy Pedals is a bike share company with “hubs” where you can pick up or drop off a bike at 60 locations around Nantucket. The process is simple and is done through an app which can be downloaded from links on sandpedalsbikes.com Bikes are available for a few hours, a week or a month. There’s even an option for a one-year pass with unlimited rides. You can even reserve a Sandy Pedals bike, so you’ll know there’s one available when you arrive at the hub. A helmet comes with every bike, and all bikes have “stepper” frames to accommodate any rider.

Owner Thomas Holt describes Sandy Pedals as “a public service that gives people an affordable option to get from point A to point B around our island…and you can get there without getting exhausted!”

Being “misty” can be delicious!

Whether you’re ordering for one or need a treat to feed your family and friends, Foggy Nantucket Pizza & BBQ is the place to order.

Chef-owners Shaun and Amanda Riley are passionate about their Nantucket food, family and customers. One of the few family businesses still on the island, they aim to make everyone happy: from little ones to grandma and everyone in between. Their menu offerings include hearty salads made to order with house dressings like smoked jalapeno ranch and honey lime dressing, BBQ and specialty sandwiches (our staff love their smoked, salty, sweet Hawaiian beef and spicy), barbecue platters and smoked meats, and more than a dozen varieties of thick-crust pizzas and thin-crust pizzas with freshly made pizza dough and marinara prepared daily.

Got a crowd to feed? Foggy Nantucket offers barbecue family packs that include pulled pork, smoked chicken, pork ribs, brisket, or all five. And their freshly made sides can’t be beat: coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans (flavored with the charred ends from the barbecue) and homemade mac and cheese, a favorite with the kids. Their freshly baked garlic knots are truly addictive. Shaun and Amanda grew up in the south, so they know barbecue – they like it smoky and sweet. They dry rub and smoke all meats in-house with hickory wood.

If you have room for dessert (and you can’t!) they have fruit crisps, cheesecakes, peanut butter pie, amazing lemon marscarpone cake and cinnamon knots with icing. Are you still hungry? Order online at foggynantucket.com
