As we kick off the holiday weekend, here’s what’s happening locally:
ROAD WORK ALERTS: Three SDOT projects scheduled today – repaving at the low eastbound bridge entrance (details here), flashing beacon work at 17th Ave SW and SW Henderson St., and at South Park, work on 14th Avenue South and South Cloverdale to install reflective tape around signal heads.
(added) REMEMBRANCE DAY POPPIES: The West Seattle VFW is at Admiral Safeway (2622 California SW) distributing little red poppies until noon (and again 9am-noon Sunday)
SOUTH DELRIDGE FARMERS MARKET: This year, it happens twice a month – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. academy of hope (9421 18th SW).
HIGHLAND PARK SPRAYPARK: Provided for open today and stay open every day, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., until Labor Day. (1100 SW Cloverdale)
HOLIDAY WEEKEND SALE: New WSB sponsor Outfitters from the mountain to the sound (3602 SW Alaska) has a sale until Monday! Open today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
VIETNAMESE CULTURAL CENTER: Open to visitors from noon to 3 p.m. as listed here. (2234 SW Orchard)
WOODEN HOUSE MUSEUM: The Seattle Southwest Historical Society has reopened its museum on Alki, and you can visit it from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. (61st/Stevens)
GRAND OPENING OF LILY’S SALVADOREAN RESTAURANT: 2-6 p.m., the new restaurant at 2940 SW Avalon Way invites you to party, with music and more.
BEACH LIGHTS: Alki’s Rings of Fire will be officially available for the summer from tonight.
EVENING MUSIC @ C&P COFFEE: Gil Guitar at C&P Coffee Company (5612 California SW; sponsor WSB), 7 p.m., no coverage.
DRAG SHOW AT THE ADMIRAL PUB: Saturday is the night for Dolly Madison‘s show at Admiral pub (2306 California SW), 9 p.m. (see comment)
