The former Leesburg Taco Bell general manager accused of stealing $3,000 in overnight deposits has pleaded in her criminal case.

Jasmine Daree Heard, 28, of Ocala, pleaded not guilty Friday in Lake County court to a grand theft charge. She remains free on $2,000 bond. She is due back in court on September 19.

She is accused of stealing more than $3,000 from the fast food restaurant.

A loss prevention manager for the restaurant, located at 27443 US Hwy. August 27, told a Leesburg police officer on August 1 that he had been notified by Taco Bell’s accounting department of unaccounted for deposits. Truist Bank found no evidence of deposits reported on July 12 ($1,024.27), July 15 ($830.00), July 18 ($648.86) and July 19 ($630.00 ). The total amount of unaccounted deposits was $3,139, according to the police report.

The loss prevention manager provided surveillance video from Leesburg detectives showing Heard preparing deposits inside the store and then driving away with the cash in his personal vehicle. The bank is just across the street, according to the report.

Heard admitted to making the nightly deposits, but denied stealing the money.
