Restaurant Review: Superior Crab by Bethany Claire Johnson

I went to the Superior Crab during its grand opening with full knowledge of my seafood allergy. I didn’t care. I was so excited for a new style of restaurant in Vicksburg.

Even though the restaurant was packed, there was no wait. I was surprised. They were getting orders faster than people could order them.

My parents, son and I sat down while our server, JC, was very attentive. We explained that we had to go get the baby’s food because he was picky. We also ordered a grilled oyster appetizer. Even with a full house, we had both appetizer and my son’s food before we were really settled.

We ordered chicken fillets with fries for my son, and they were piping hot. This plate could have fed two adults, and my 11 month old devoured it. I had a bite of his chicken tenderloin and it was probably the best chicken tenderloin I’ve had in Vicksburg. I know you don’t go to a seafood restaurant for fried chicken, but if you did, you wouldn’t be disappointed. It was crispy and tasted like hand dough. The fries were so hot we couldn’t give them to her at first, but that’s how you want your fries, you know?

For our entrees, I ordered the Monday night special. There was king crab, mussels, shrimp, corn, eggs and a potato. My parents ordered the fried shrimp and the fried catfish. Both came with coleslaw and fries.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t tried their food so I’m not going to sit here and lay on it. It smelled good, looked wonderful, but I was completely smitten with the food I had. I had the seasoning mix which came with garlic, lemon pepper and cajun seasoning. The audacity of these people to give me a plate of food made me want to give them my mortgage.

The food was so fresh and cooked to perfection. I put on my cute little bib and started smashing this crab with my bare hands like a caveman. The shrimp was headless which made my life easier. I destroyed the molds.

The mussels were my favorite part, I could have eaten 352 pounds of those mussels. They were juicy and that seasoning sauce really penetrated that protein. It’s surprising how delicious the food was when you consider how fast the service was. JC and the chefs have really outdone themselves. I could have drank the marinade, I’m telling you all it was and the corn was off the line, and next time I’ll probably order 2-3 more eggs, as they were hard and not burnt . You might taste this marinade in the yolk.

The crab was cooked so well you could break the leg in half and not damage the meat. I mean this place was phenomenal. You must try. I can not wait to return to.

The Upper Crab is located on Pemberton Blvd where El Paso used to be. Hope you have a great experience and don’t forget to tip your waiter.
