Plans to continue using the temporary car park at Glovers Court are set to be given the green light.

The existing car park at 48-64 Glovers Court has 18 spaces.

It has been in use since obtaining provisional approval in 2016 for three years, with work to tar the site and develop parking spaces, erection of a perimeter wall, seizure of automatic cash registers and payment information panels.

The parking lot had been operating illegally since 2019 when the permit expired. The applicant proposes to continue the exploitation of the site to park the cars in accordance with the existing provisions.

The site is located in the town center and forms part of the Winckley Square conversation area, and an extension of a main shopping area and is surrounded by numerous shops, bars and restaurants.

On behalf of the claimant, PWA Planning officers said: ‘The site is centrally located in the town center in an area which would benefit from continuous parking.

“Although the site is in a very sustainable location with good access to the train and bus station, a significant number of people still drive to the city center.

“As such there is a need to ensure that there is a sufficient level of parking available to support the level of visitors to Preston city centre.

“Furthermore, the site is already operating as a car park and has been doing so for about 8 years, so it is clear that the site has been used positively by the general public.
